Sussex County, Delaware DUI Lawyers
There are actually three “corridors” in Sussex where we tend to see a lot of people getting charged with drunk driving offenses. First is the Route 13 corridor, heading from Greenwood down to Bridgeville, Seaford, Laurel and down to Delmar.
The middle Sussex corridor is the 113 corridor south of Milford. We see Route 113 DUI cases coming from Milford, Lincoln, Ellendale, and Georgetown. South of Georgetown, we see a good number of DUI cases out of Millsboro, Dagsboro, Frankford, and even Selbyville. We consider Gumboro to be part of this middle Sussex corridor too, but as far as anyone here can recall, we have not had any clients to-date with DUI charges in Gumboro. We also include Harbeson in this middle Sussex corridor.
The eastern Sussex corridor is the Delaware beaches area – trace Route 1 south from Milford and you’ll go through the Slaughter Beach area, Milton, Lewes, Rehoboth, Long Neck, Dewey Beach, Oak Orchard, Bethany Beach, on down to Fenwick Island.
We don’t currently have a Sussex County office, but if you follow the three main Sussex County highways North to Dover, they all basically lead to our main office at the intersection of Route 13 and South State Street in Dover. Even if you don’t or can’t come up to Dover for a free consultation with our DUI defense team, there’s no reason we can’t give you a consultation with an expert DUI lawyer via teleconference.
Why go all the way to Dover for a DUI lawyer?
This is a good question, of course, it’s better to ask this question before you go to court. Because after you go to court, the question may become “why didn’t I go all the way to Dover for a DUI lawyer?” A lot of folks at SCI have asked themselves that question. Here’s the best way to explain it:
DUI cases are special. The lawyer you hire to defend you in a DUI case needs to have some special knowledge in a couple of areas of the law. First, the attorney needs to know the Constitutional law regarding Fourth Amendment stops and seizures. In almost every DUI case, there’s a police officer stopping a motorist and beginning an investigation into the facts of the case. A quality criminal defense lawyer specializing in driving under the influence defense will be knowledgeable about the latest developments in this area of the law. That’s important because Fourth Amendment law is changing rapidly.
Another very important thing that makes DUI cases special is scientific testing. The police typically use breath testing devices or blood tests to try to gauge whether a suspect has a Blood-Alcohol Concentration or BAC above the legal limit. An attorney who focuses his practice on DUI defense will know whether the authorities followed proper scientific procedures for administering these tests.
